Artists Worth Giving A Listen!

It's official! Damn The Man Records now has a MYSPACE! This of course means that I am getting friend request daily from random artists and bands. So I will update you guys regular on some great musicians. Here are some of the ones I listened to today & my favorite song:

Cait Murphy - Save Me. She has a really good voice, and I love all her lyrics. I like the fact that she write her own music as well. :)

Finding Fire - Kontrol. I really like their sound it's mystical/spiritual sounding. Def. good!

Page 9 - You Don't Know Me. Gotta support my Texas bands! (but seriously great sound!)

Josh Kelly - Beautiful Goodbye. Great voice!

YoMama - The Skank. Very old school sound, love the tone of all the songs.

Take The Town - Eyes Wide. I bet these guys put on a good show :)

Capablanca - This Body Is Not Mine. I love their sound!

Vittorio Tolomeo
- Love Insane. The voice is awesomeness.

Pennyroyals - Don't Say Goodbye. All of the songs they had on their myspace are really good, it was hard to pick a favorite.

Stay
- Bella The acoustic songs they had posted are awesome too, I am a sucker for acoustic :)

The Involvement - So What. They have a really great sound! P.S. They are also looking for a drummer!

My Girl Friday - She Hates To Love Me. The acoustic version of this song is amazing!

Almost Hero - Please Don't Leave. All right if you know my track record with music it's pretty obvious why I like this band lol

Ok, I'm done for the night lol I think I listened to about 20 bands. I hope you liked some of these great ones. :) We are always open to new music!

Love Lies Sweet

Over my Christmas break I went to a show for this band at Hot Topic, which I don't recommend (that store is so the man!) Anyways... Even though this show was only their 3rd time to preform live they put on a pretty good show. You can always tell when a band is really into the music their playing when they are doing more then just standing their and playing. (Yes there are bands out there that never do more than sing or play. If you are ever in the Austin area you should for sure try and make a show. They are also on Facebook, Myspace and Twitter so it gives you plenty of ways to make them your new favorite band! P.S. They are also pretty awesome guys so if you get the chance you should meet them. :)

Here are some pictures I took @ Hot Topic ( I took them from my phone which explains the quality ):

The Alumni Club

In my personal twitter I get a lot of random bands who want to follow me, which I am thinking because they go and try to follow everyone that is following a band they think they sound like. This is at times almost as annoying as your average junk mail but then sometime a band makes it though that actually sounds decent. Would I do this kind of advertising if I had a band... probably but I never allow them to follow me because who needs random band of justice reading my updates? lol Anyways back to the band at hand... The Alumni Club I went and checked out their myspace and I think they are worth the listen. If they came to Texas I would for sure go to one of their shows. It seems like bands these days are starting to sound a lot alike on tape but when you attend their live shows it's very diverse. I don't know what they do in the studio compared to when they preform live but their CD's normally never do a band justice. There are quite a few bands that I will not listen to on CD but will never miss a concert for. So if you ever feel like a band doesn't sound up to par when you are listening to them on myspace or whatever try and attend one of their shows you might just be impressed. (random advice for the day ha ha) Oh and out of the 4 songs on their myspace my favorite was Baby My Songs Are Better :)

Lynyrd Skynyrd & Kid Rock

I really don't know what we were expecting from this concert but I don't think we were quite ready for the amount of white trash people that attended. I have never seen so many older women getting down dirty dancing in my life. But I would take that over teeny boppers any day. We decided to do something different with this concert, not only do I have pictures but I also have the set list.

The openner band was really good suprisingly it was called Jonathan Tyler and the Northern Lights.

Lynyrd Skynyrd played next, their set list was:

1. Skynyrd Nation
2. Give Me Back My Bullets
3. What's Your Name
4. That Smell
5. I Know A Little
6. Simple Man
7. Still Unbroken
8. Gimmie 3 Steps
9. Georgia Peaches
10. Sweet Home Alabama
11. Free Bird

Kid Rock was amazing, he put on a show like no other. The energy and envolment from the crowd was awesome. I couldn't believe how long the set was either, he didn't play all of these songs full out but he played them none the less. He also did a few covers so I listed them as well:

1. Rock n Roll Jesus
2. Son of Detroit
3. Never Met A Mother Fucker
4. Devil Without A Cause
5. Low Lifes
6. Keep Your Hands to Yourself - Georgia Satellites
7. Cocky
8. All Summer Long
9. Amen
10. Rock n Roll Pain Train
11. Everyday People - Sly and The Family Stone
12. Cowboy
13. Good Ol' Boys - Waylon Jennings
14. God Knows Why
15. Wasting Time
16. Picture w/ Stacy Michelle
17. What's My Name
18. Catch Scratch Fever - Ted Nugent
19. Hot
20. Bawitdaba

All in all it was a great concert, sitting in the lawn it's as bad as I thought it would be. We went to the Woodlands Pavillion in Houston, TX, I am so in love with that venue! I am glad we have more concerts to go to there because it has got to be one of the best I have been to as far as venues go.

Pictures soon!

Edgefest 19

A few weekends ago we went to Edgefest 19 in Dallas, TX. The trip in it self was quite the experiance and we ended up getting to the venue late so needless to say we didn't get in a good position for pictures. But the bands were awesome except for 311 lol The bands that were there were:
1. 10 Years
2. Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
3. The Used
4. Taking Back Sunday
5. Shinedown
6. Papa Roach
7. Blue October
8. 311
9. Korn

There were other random bands on a different stage but I didn't watch any of them so i'm not going to list them lol I think that all of these bands put on an awesome show, I saw Red Jumpsuit 2 years ago at Edgefest 17 and I think they have changed a lot. Which kind of sucks because I prefer their old sound better. They have become quite the screamo band (or their trying to anyways)

We ended up leaving half way into Korns set because the people we were with were sick of being in the rain. Which I will admit it was very cold and rain by the time 311 came on but we would have toughed it out.

In other news, I updated the Texas calender with new concerts, now that school is out (and apparently i can't afford summer) I will try to be updating more often.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Since before I can remember Tom Petty has always been one of my top 5 favorite bands. But I have a new love for him, I was reading random forms and someone linked a video of his that gave me a new look at him (I'm not really a music video kind of person) Anyways the song is "Don't come round here no more" it's Alice and Wonderland themed. So I've been video searching him for the past hour and wow. Completely blows me away, they are so off the wall just like a lot of his songs so it makes sense. lol Anyways for your viewing pleasure Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: Clicky These people have a lot of other videos by him too, "Yer so bad" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" are awesome too.

Discovering Good Music

Firstly I am giving up on the whole calender idea for a while, I know that it could be what I visioned it would be if I had the time to put into it, but I don't so it's not going to be. (Except for Texas being as that is where I am located)

But I am going to replace it with a list of helpful links for people any where in the USA and I am still going to list tours that we think someone should see.

Anyways back to what I was originally going to post about:

So I was on my home from class and this song came on and it was so awesome. Not only were the lyrics great but the sound was badass too. I kept thinking that I had heard this band before but I couldn't place it so when I got home I googled it and it turned out to be Saving Abel. Which is a band I had heard of before but never really gave much though. So I went to their website and you can listen to their whole cd there, it's awesome! It is rare that you find a band that can put out a whole cd that has great songs all the way through it. What's even better is they are going on tour this spring with Nickelback so I should be able to catch them in concert. 18 days is for sure my favorite song, the video is pretty awesome too. I hope you like them as much as I do. :)
